Cherish Happiness

I had fun with this image by Stampendous.  I got to play with glossy paper and it responds a bit different then paper that allows the Copics to "soak" in.  You really are just applying the ink to the top  layer.  I used my airbrush to give it the textured look.  When I was done I colored in the roses using more of a dabbing motion.  As you can see there is not a lot of contrast in the flowers as copics do not blend well on glossy paper when applying direct marker to paper.  I still was happy with the results.  this is another technique to play with when using a different type of paper then what you are used to.

**Please note that I color using the lightest color first, dark, medium and back to light.  I only slightly blend the edge of the last color placed.  Then add the shadow.

If you miss one of the combo's you can find it on the side of the blog labeled "Color of The Day".  Please realize that your computer screen and printer can change the way you see it or how the colors print, but if you try it yourself you will get some fun combos...promise!

Also, feel free to pin them.  I ask that you do not sell them printed out, do not place them on your personal blog but rather link to mine.  These are for personal use only.   Leave me some love if you want to see more!

Be Free Little One

A few years back I went to Mexico during the release of the sea turtles.  I took some fun photos.  I have been thinking about trying my hand at some free hand drawing and coloring and yesterday I decided this photo would be perfect for this.  I made the mistake of trying some new paper specifically for markers, wow did that make things challenging to say the least.  I always tell my student to learn to use the paper you have on hand.  Each one will react differently to copics and to learn the capabilities and reactions and take control...don't let the paper control you.  Well teacher got a taste of exactly what she preaches.  This paper SUCKED...the life right outa me...LOL.  Ok you get the point...but I won!!!!

Here is my sea turtle from start to finish.  It took me two days.  I used almost all the T's, W's and C's to color it up.  I am so thrilled with the outcome!!!

Happy Thanksgiving to you all!!

Sailing Across the Deep Blue Sea

Ever feel like you want to get messy after coloring so many images crisp and clean.  Why not go "distressed" with a amazing image by Stampendous.  This ship was the perfect thing to use for this technique.  instead of using distress inks I colored it up with Copics, airbrushing the background.  I then added Frantage to the edge of the image (after cutting and popping the focus of the image).  I really love the end results and thought this would make the perfect guy card.

Stamp image on glossy paper and another on smooth card stock
Cut out image on smooth card stock and color
Airbrush and mist with alcohol image on glossy (or coffee spritz)
Using your favorite die cut, cut out glossy image
pop up colored image onto airbrushed, die cut image
Cut out a stair step card
Layer your favorite complimenting card stock on different sections
Using the "sprinkle and heat from underneath" method add embossing enamel, fragments, glass glitter and mica to the image.
wrap with twine or hemp cord
Pop up image onto card base

Mystical Christmas

A while back I did a tutorial on coloring white object.  I used the same technique to color this image by Stampendous.  The tutorial is HERE.  I stamped this image twice to create the "mystical" look.  After applying a little color to the first image I covered it with double stick adhesive ultra fine glitter.  I added a tiny bit more color over the glitter.  The second thing I did was to color the unicorn and cut it out.  I placed it on the scenery.  that was it.  Not a lot of coloring involved with a very mystical look.  I hope you like it.

Please note...when coloring on top of very fine glitter use a dabbing motion not a dragging motion to color or the alcohol in the marker will break down the adhesive and drag away the glitter. :)

Shhhh...It's a Surprise!

Sweet and innocent?  I think not...don't let her fool you.  I don't know why I colored her hair pink.  I have been doing that a lot lately.  Funny thing is, I am not a fan of pink AT ALL.  I do like this combo though.  This image is a new one from Make It Crafty.  Zoe from MIC just released a whole bunch of new ones.  You know I am a huge fan of MIC!  Anyways, I just wanted to share her with you as I had her all colored up and carded.

Arizona Copic Boot Camp 2013

Thank you to all retreat attendees for making another Arizona Boot Camp so colorfully fun!  If you couldn't make it this time, I hope to see you next year.  We had so much fun and laughs over the weekend.   We even made time to color with our Copics!  See you next year.

Puttin' on the Ritz

Mmmm...This gingerbread man is totally making a move.  He is dancing' to the beat, turning up the heat.  Can you feel it?  He is rockin' the crazy Copic color combo of E70, E71, E74 and BV23.  Added shadows are in BV29.  What a cool funky dude!  I just love him.  I finished coloring him up and then decided I would carefully add texture using a rough terry clothe and a little blending solution.  I held the texture rag on him for about 3 seconds to get good color texture removal.  I think I heard him giggle a little.

Chuggin' Right Along

Did you know that Stampendous made this amazing stamp.  It reminds me of the postcard stamp they cam out with last year that is still popular today.  You must get this stamp.  It is so diverse.  You can change it up to be a wintery scene, or fall just by the colors you use.  One of the other Design Teammies from Stampendous colored it up very different then mine...I love it.  You can check Janelles out HERE.

I tried to make it look like steam coming out of the locomotive but I think i just made it look like a dirty sky.  I am going to have to work on my smoke....maybe add more white to it...hmmmm.  Here is last years postcard.  It is still available too.

Color of the Day 100

Can you believe you now have 100 tags in your collection?  I can't believe I have done this for 100 days.  So maybe I should stop now?!  Oh heck no!  I have felt so much love from the comments, I think I will just keep going.   Thank you for referring people to my sight through word of mouth and Pinterest.

You better go get a bigger book, or ring to store your COTD in or on.  Having color separation anxiety?  How about some tags to separate those colors.  Happy 100th to YOU!!!  Now to shoot for a full years worth...yes, that is 365 days!  No promises, but I will give it my best shot!!  See you tomorrow!

"Sweet" Elf

How about a little more inspiration.  This elf is new to the store and has the cutest little grin.  I had fun coloring up this one…ok, I have fun with them all…who am I kidding.  If you look closely you can see I followed  the sketch challenge from the MIC fan FB page.  Notice how the light source is coming from the right?  Do you want to know how I choose my light source?  A nice rule of thumb is to have the light source coming from the direction the character is looking.  This would put the “sun” in this elf’s face.  It draws attention to the “main” focus.  If the elf was looking to the left then that would be my light source…and of course if the character is looking straight at you the light source would be in front.  I hope that helps.  Now go color something!

Let it Snow...

Let it snow...let it snow...let it snow.  Trying to color up a snowman to have the "cool" appearance?  Why don't you try using light blue instead of grey.  Sometimes too much gray leaves the snowman looking dirty...so I like to chipper him up a bit by using B0000 B000 and Boo.  I add shadows using BV20.  I hope you like this "cool" little tip.  Grab this image from the store HERE and give it a try.

Stepping Outside of the Lines

I have been coloring inside the lines for years now.  Not to say I do not thuroughly enjoy every moment of it, but I just want to "be free" of lines.  I thought I would try my hand at "painting" with Copics.  I really loved the moment...and need time to do more.  I am usually a very detail oriented person and this was hard to do as I wanted to go back and add all the details...but due to lack of time I am calling it DONE.  Come December when my schedule calms down I hope to get a bigger canvas and play.  I am thinking a huge canvas with Poppies.  And no I never finished the last poppy stem project I started or the reptile's eye....thats how I roll.  Sigh...someday.

Actual canvas size is 7 x 9
Colored with Various Refills R85 R81 B32 YG95 and a "waterbrush"

Cog-A-Doodle-Doo

Now this is something to sink your teeth into.  When I saw this new release from Stampendous I knew I had to do something "over-the top"  After coloring the rooster I put my markers away and prepared to get messy.  A lot of layers are applied here and I had to step away to stop myself from going more nuts.  I decided to teach this in a class at Scraps of Love next month.  If you live local or want to make a drive be sure and sign up for the few spots that are left.  You will learn tons of techniques plus get to play with some awesome products.  Refer to the Class Schedule tab above for details.

Stamp the Rooster Elements using Memento Tuxedo black stamp pad onto smooth white card stock.  Color with alcohol markers.  Put a thin coat of the gloss Decou-page over the rooster and let dry.  Cut Rooster out.   Using your Versamark stamp pad and the bark embossing powder, emboss the rooster elements stamp onto the background.  Some of the image will not show up due to the texture.  Heat set the embossed image.  Using foam tape, pop up colored rooster on the base piece.  Apply large painted cogs and gears using foam tape and regular adhesive depending on if you want the cog popped or flat.  Using the gloss Decou-page™ as adhesive apply the crushed glass glitter, mica and color fragments anywhere you desire.  Heat pice of organza ribbon carefully with heat gun and allow to slightly curl.  Stick into the book board base using stick pins.  Using Decou-page™ add small watch pieces.  Frame your piece or use it for a book cover.
